Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me."

                                         (John 14:1)

Jean Marie Allman passed peacefully at her home in Gaithersburg, MD on Thursday, October 29, 2020.  She shared 87 years of love and faith with her family.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday November 4, 2020 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Denville.  Due to the current health crisis, Jean's family will gather privately this week.  Jean's Mass will be available for viewing on this site on Wednesday afternoon. We respectfully ask that you keep the Allman family in your prayers as they say goodbye to their Mother and Grandmother. It is their sincere hope to see all of their family and friends in the very near future.

Donations in her memory may be made to the good work of Holy Name School of Nursing by way of www.inmemof.org

Please share your memories here.  Jean’s family will cherish them forever.

Jean was born Jean Marie McGrath in April 1933.  She and her four siblings grew up in Hillsdale, NJ.  After graduating Westwood HS, she attended Holy Name Nursing School, Teaneck NJ and developed lifelong friendships.  She had an ability of bringing comfort and love to each day and every situation. Her varied nursing career include OR, pediatric and school nursing. In 1955 she married her longtime sweetheart James Allman and the couple raised their family first in Fairlawn and then in Ramsey, NJ.  Jean was the devoted Mother to five children, spending many afternoons sitting on benches supporting their activities.

She and Jim retired to her much-loved Jersey shore. With time she became a Grandma to 12, and Great Grandmother to 2.  This was her proudest role: she loved being with her children.  In 2015 she moved to Maryland where she made new friendships at Asbury Methodist Village. She most enjoyed family gatherings, frequently hosting large holiday dinners.  Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is with her dear Jim, her parents, brothers, and many friends again, watching over her family with love.

Predeceased by her husband James (2014); she leaves joyful memories to her children Joanne Whitsitt (Eddy), Barbara Edwards (Dan), Matthew Allman (Jackie), Karen Allman (Rob) and Mark Allman (Emily); her grandchildren Brian, Scott, Jessica, Christopher, Peter, Elizabeth, Eric, Victoria, Ezekiel, Agnes, Michael, and Thomas, her great grandchildren Madison and Reza James and her siblings Michael McGrath and Maryann Freeman. She is predeceased by her parents James and Anna, and her brothers, James and John McGrath.
