Bill and I were introduced by our mutual friend Al Haberstroh back in the nineteen seventies. Bill, Al, Doc Garner, along with a larger, shadier group of cohorts shared an amazing period of comradery, raucous behavior, and just pure fun. Bill attended a wild Halloween party that I hosted in my new house in Connecticut back when. He irreverently dressed up as a Golgotha Christ with his cross and that was just like his dry humor. He attended my first wedding (yes, I had more than one), took many excursions to our social get togethers in Randolph, Vermont, participated to numerous Winter's in our crazy ski houses up in Hunter Mountain, and let's not forget our rainbow-colored trips to Doc's family cabin in Chestertown in upstate NY.
When not traveling and finding ridiculous adventures, Bill and most of us, could often be found in our local watering hole, The Place on Second Street, where he befriended Gabe the bartender, we would all have interesting conversations till wee hours and often we unsuccessfully tried to pick up girls over many a beer. The group had some of the best experiences anyone could hope for and the connections lasted for two decades and beyond. Bill was a memorable part of that experience!
When I heard about Bill's turn in health, I was upset. We had not talked much in the last several years. That's sometimes just the way life goes. He lived in NJ and me in Georgia. I wanted to reach out to him and let him know I was thinking of him and appreciated his friendship. I wasn't sure if too much time had passed and it might be too little too late. We did get a chance to talk briefly and importantly we made a reconnection. I will miss Bill and always appreciate his friendship.
I offer my sincerest condolences to Erica and his siblings for their loss. RIP my friend.

This earth lost a hero & the heavens gained an angel eight days ago. He is missed, he is loved and his memory will be forever cherished. I pray he made it to his final resting place safely and is watching over all of his loved ones with warmth and light.

Bill (or "Mr. Bill" sometimes) had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful friend. He was always great company around the campfire, skiing, or just hanging out. He's gone way too soon.

Bill and I were colleagues at Purdue Pharma and became friends. We were coffee buddies and often enjoyed an afternoon piece of chocolate. He was a good sport taking my ribbings calling him an old hippie, which he was proud of. We shared liberal views and much of the same music ( except I had fondness for disco, not him so much). I missed our discussions after his retiring a year before me. Bill had an excellent mind for cutting through and seeing the bs, and he was a good listener on personal matters and thoughtful in his responses. Peace out Bill and fly with the angels.

I have known Bill for, I guess, my entire life. As kids Bill and my brother Al were called “The Big Kids” and Myself and Bill’s brother Ed were “The Little Kids”. We played (and managed to get in trouble) together almost every day. When we got older we shared adventures camping in Vermont, winters at our rented ski house and attended numerous Yankee and Giant games.
I will always remember Bill as a close friend. I hope he is looking down on us and smiling.

Walt, going through his things there are so many memories with daddy and “the guys”, I wish he was here to share some of his memories from those times and tell me about the photos ... I’ll have to send them to you all on the fb. I hope you and your loved ones are remaining healthy and safe in this crazy year. Thank you for being his friend for all of these years.

I’ve known Bill since we were two or three years old. He was born just 24 days after I was and he lived across the street from me. We played together as kids and remained friends through adulthood. After college, we shared an apartment in Weehawken. We played on the same softball team for many years, were both part of the Hunter Mountain ski house group and the crew that trekked to Vermont every summer holiday weekend (those were crazy days). I was also the best man at his wedding.
To say I lost good and old friend is an understatement. I’ll miss you my friend, R.I.P.

I know it's not a very good photo but it's one that reminded me of better days and one of our many trips to Vermont. This photo was taken on the Floating Bridge in Brookfield, VT. I believe it was taken at the end of a trip bouncing around Arcadia National Park Maine, Quebec City, Quebec and of course Vermont. Good Times!
