Obituary of Rita Hansen
“All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my Angel Mother”

Rita Hansen passed peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2020. She shared 87 years of love with her family. Private arrangements were held under the direction of the Norman Dean Home for Services. Interment to take place at the Northern NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the good work of the Guiding Eyes for the Blind by way of www.guidingeyes.org. Please share your memories here. Her family will cherish them forever.
Rita was born on a beautiful fall day in 1933. She was the youngest of four children to bless the Oberlin family. She grew up in Canton, OH and after her schooling took a job with AT&T. She was working in Miami for a short time and it was there that she met Paul Hansen. After a whirlwind romance, Paul proposed and the rest was history. They married and settled in Buffalo, New York where they started a family of their own. Rita was a devoted wife, wonderful mom and amazing homemaker. She worked hard to see that her family wanted for nothing and always had a home filled with love and warmth.
Rita enjoyed a longtime career with AT&T and was a proud employee. She retired in 1996 and took with her many lasting friendships. A few years later, she and Paul headed down South first to Myrtle Beach and then to The Villages in Florida where she could golf often. She loved the game and achieved THREE holes in one through the years. In 2011, they headed back north to be closer to family and settled in happily at St. Francis.
Rita’s proudest roles was those of Grandma and Great Grandma. She doted on the kids and bragged of them often. She was over the moon to hear of her newest great grandson just a few months ago. Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and watching over her family with love and pride.
She leaves beautiful memories to her husband Paul of 66 years; her children Clifford Hansen (Lisa Steinberg) and Donna Brzezinski (Michael); her grandchildren John Hansen (Claudia); Laurie Kania (Ken) and Thomas Brzezinski (Sarah); her great grandchildren Mason Giordano, Samantha, Jack and Hunter Brzezinski, Adam and Lucille Kania and baby Hansen on the way; her dear siblings Robert Oberlin and Alice Fautsko and many more relatives and friends. Her eldest brother George Oberlin passed previously.
