Obituary of Margaret E. Somma

Margaret Somma passed peacefully on July 22, 2020 at her residence at The Oaks in Denville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 29th at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish, Myers Ave., Denville.  Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, July 28th from 4-7 p.m. at Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother by way of www.inmemof.org

 

Margaret was born to the late Felix and Angelina (nee Racioppi) Milano on December 8, 1922.  She graduated from Central High School, Newark, NJ in 1940 and married Dominick Somma in 1942, her husband of 60 years. They resided in Newark until 1962, when they moved to Livingston, NJ.   

 

Margaret obtained her associates degree in Applied Sciences from Essex County College in 1972. She was employed by Martland Medical Center, Newark, NJ and later St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ where she was a dedicated coding specialist.  She was a longstanding member of the American Medical Records Association and was also a member of St. Philomena’s Parish in Livingston for over 40 years. Margaret’s love of learning and her strong faith were passed on to her family whom she encouraged to excel.

 

Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Dominick, her six siblings Mary, Nicholas, Rose, Caroline, Gerard and Antoinette;  her son-in-law, Larry Chamberlain and her daughter in law, Karen Somma, who held a special place in her heart.

 

She is survived by her children Richard Somma, Dianne Marciano (Phil), and Donald Somma (Jacquelyn); her cherished nine grandchildren Joshua (Yara), Abigail, Amanda, Adele, Rebecca Gelasco, (Eli), Eliza Frasier (Stephen), Lauren, Emily and Donald and her adored seven great grandchildren.
