Obituary of Diane C. Bird
Diane C. Bird passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2020 at the Boonton Care Center in Boonton. She was just a couple of weeks shy of sharing 87 years of love and memories with family and friends.
Diane was born in New York City to the late Aloysius “Al” and Margaret Banks. She was raised in Little Falls N.J. Diane was the oldest of six daughters to bless the Banks household. After graduating from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, she attended Art School. She married Harold K. Bird from nearby Clifton in 1953 and the rest is history. Together they settled into the Rock Ridge Lake Section of Denville, where Diane has remained ever since. She made a successful career for herself as a Civil Engineering Designer at Art DeLuca Consulting Engineers in Rockaway, retiring in her late 60’s.
Diane was active in the Rock Ridge Community Club where she enjoyed making props for beach parties. In her later years she volunteered with the Quilting Group of Denville Community Church. Her entire life, she was a talented seamstress, making all of her clothes as a young adult. That passion grew into quilting, crocheting, needle-point, macramé, and other crafts; she would donate, gift, or save all of her work once completed. Making sure to experience all that life had to offer, on her 75th Birthday Diane went skydiving! This Matriarch was truly one of a kind and will be sorely missed. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her husband, Harold, her loving son, Richard E. Bird, her siblings, Stephanie Banks and Joan Murren, and her parents.
She leaves joyful memories to her sons, David A. Bird and his wife Tricia and Gary M. Bird and his wife Joy Cuadra-Bird; her treasured granddaughters, Colleen Hankins and her husband Brent and Molly K. Bird; her cherished sisters, Kathy Kloss and her husband Jack, Susan Banks, and Melanie Banks; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
All services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any organization of your choice. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, or share your favorite memory of Diane here to continue to celebrate the incredible life she shared with us.
