Some of my favorite childhood memories were of Coach Shaw and my dad (Ken Foster) coaching us during little league football. All my best to the family.

Men like Chief Shaw helped make growing up in Denville a great pleasure. "Howie" taught young men sportsmanship and values associated with being on a Police Athletic League baseball team. Denville is a great community. RIP Coach!

"Thank you" for your dedication to the P.A.L. Howie. Playing ball for you was a bright spot in an otherwise dismal period of my adolescence. Always had a gift to put smile on someone's face. Denville was a better place to grow up because of you.

My deepest and sincere condolences to the Shaw family. Nothing but great memories of Chief Shaw growing up in Denville and being a close neighbor and friend with his sons Harry & Howard. Fond memories of him as my baseball coach with Denville PAL. He was great guy and I remember him as a tough and fearless competitor with a dash of humor, but most of all I remember him as a dedicated family man. Chief, you’ve run a fabulous race! Time to take that victory lap...you’ve earned it! Rest In Peace, God Bless and Godspeed

I will always have the sweetest memories of my uncle, Howard Shaw. He always made me smile, laugh, and feel good. He had a contagious smile! I loved how my PaPa and him would talk for hours on the back porch up in the mountains in NC at my pa Pa's house. He adored Howard! He was a man to be honored, for all the good he did for his community, family and people.Fly high sweet Angel! You are home in heaven with your loving wife and precious son, Hunter. Love, prayers and comfort to all the family and friends.
Love,
Tracy

A great guy - always with a welcoming smile. I knew Howard from the Denville Senior Association. Howard always had a great story to tell about his life in Denville. I saw a video clip on Facebook which exhibited the send off the township gave him including many Denville police officers --. Well deserved !! Our sincere condolences to the Shaw family - A great loss for all. May he rest in peace. Always remembered - never forgotten. May our Lord welcome him to his kingdom. Carol and Ray Bsarany

I cherish the memories I have of Howard visiting and sitting with my dad in the nursing home over the years. He made sure, once dad could no longer march in the parade through out Morris County with the Tin Can Sailors, that he could still participate by riding in the open car with him and Rhoda. Two proud veterans of times past who served their country and were proud of their service to their Nation. Thank you Howard for your kindness to Ken, Sister Pat

To entire Shaw Family:
Our condolences and prayers for all of you , we know you shared great times together and the video is special !
" Howie " was the Chief of Police when I was growing up in Denville, also coached the PAL baseball and basketball teams. He drove that " OLD " school bus that barely could climb a small hill to take us to games and taught us songs like the " Boo - Yeah " Song, still makes me laugh; and others when they hear it.
The police department was well run and all of his people/officers were professional and fair, willing to help teach a bunch of kids running around Denville the right way to do things.
When my Dad died I called Howie and he opened up the VFW on short notice to give family and friends a warm place to have a couple of drinks, something to eat and time to reminiscence.
Remember the good stuff and GOD BLESS !
Kevin and Dona

Papa Shaw welcomed me into the family with open arms. He treated me like one of his children and taught me so much about home improvements, photography and how to make the best out of what you already have. He was always there for every holiday at my house and brought so much happiness with his stories and with jokes. He was a pleasure to have around. He loved coming to his grandchilrens sporting events and made it to a lot of them. When I saw him last Christmas day, he gave me a huge smile and had a gleem in his eyes where I knew he was happy to see me. I will miss you greatly and I am so sorry that you have left your family.... Diane Shaw

All of the Shaw's
There are not enough hours in a day or words that I can draw on that could compare to the impact that Howard Shaw had on all of Denville. He loved life, people and you all very much! His service to others has earned him a seat at the banquet table of our Lord.
Hold on you your memories they will help you get through the tough coming days. As Howard has now joined the growing club of Denville Icons in Heaven I am sure he received a warm welcome.
Condolences on your personal loss. The world and Denville could use a few more leaders like your Dad.

I knew Howard from Denville Seniors where he was involved in many of their functions, He surprised my mom with a 100 birthday cake and bouquet of flowers. I would add his persona was if you only met Howard briefly you would swear you knew him your whole life. He was involved in the seniors bus trips that was lots of fun.As I was Navy I salute a comrade in arms as military tribute and respect and dignity . To this great man's family my sincerest heart felt condolences. He
was the brother I never had. I would think he is up there arranging bus trips with the angels.

The Shaw Family - Having served as an apprentice carpenter at Jackson Lumber under Harold, I got to know Howard at company picnics on Lake Hopatcong. He was older and went into the Navy before I even went to Morris Hills which replaced Rockaway HS. My most consistent interaction with Howard was when he was one of my many students at CCM. When he made Chief in Denville, I could only vision what fun we may have had if I was hired by Denville in 1963. I joined the ranks of police chiefs in 1971 and ran into Howard at many meetings and conferences. I used Howard as an example when our school board told me it was a conflict to be chief and board member. He always had what I would call a wry smile. Last time we were together was about three years ago at the DFD dinner. He would kid around with me about being the Denville Days Indian. Rest in Peace Howard. Thanks for your service and thanks for the memories, all good.
