Obituary of Fortunata Mary Schoer

Fortunata Mary Schoer (Delefave) passed away at Pine Acres Nursing Home in Madison, NJ on April 21, 2020, at the age of 91.

Born and raised in Rockaway Boro, she moved to Denville, NJ in 1957 and lived there until 2017 when she moved to Madison.

In early life, Fortunata worked at Frances Yarn Corp in Denville. She then worked many years in the Kitchen at Gallagher’s Restaurant in Rockaway, NJ.

Fortunata loved to cook for her family and was known for making her pasties, apple pie, bread pudding and knots. She had a great love for Elvis and watching old movies in black and white.

Fortunata was predeceased by her beloved husband Herbert Martin Schoer in 1980.  She was also predeceased by her daughter, Cheryl Carlson, mother, Rose Giaquinto and father Dominick Delefave, sisters; Domenica "Minnie" Marino, Teresa "Tessie" Migliaccio, Thomasina "Domo" Ervey, Rose "Rosie" Cronk, and her son in-law Michael O'Mara.

She is survived by her loving children Marcie and Rinny DeYoung of Conway, SC, Martha O’Mara of Allamuchy, NJ, Scott and Susanna Schoer of Long Valley, NJ and Dawn and Wayne Leonard of Denville, NJ.  Her grandchildren Lindsay DeYoung, Keri DeYoung, Melissa O’Mara, Tommy O’Mara, Jamie O’Mara, Stephanie Schoer, Matthew Schoer, Nicole Leonard, Justin Leonard and Melissa Carlson, as well as her brother, Dominick Delefave Jr.

A private family interment will be held with a celebration of Fortunata’s life to be celebrated at a later date.
