Francis Harry Frank Cooper retired USMC Gunnery Sergeant, died on Saturday Dec. 28 at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in New Brunswick, NJ. He was 56 years old. Mr. Cooper was born in Paterson, NJ and lived in West Caldwell before moving to Edison, NJ.
Mr. Cooper was a Manager of the Supply Division for the State of New Jersey Corrections Dept. in Rahway, NJ.
Mr. Cooper retired from the USMC as a Gunnery Sergeant in 1998. Mr. Cooper had many high honors within his military career. He received the Vietnam Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal USMC, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Organized Marine Corps Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Gallantry Cross Medal with Palm, Civil Actions Medal 1st Class Color with Palm.
Mr. Cooper was a Vietnam Veteran, served 1966-1968, and participated in Operation Desert Shield/Storm Jan.1991- July 1991.
Mr. Cooper was a member of USMC Honor Guard for the NY Giants. He was member of the Tri State Chapter of the Toys for Tots Program and was very instrumental for 35 years in the program. He volunteered his time for homeless veterans and at the VA Hospital in Menlo Park, NJ.
He is survived by his Mother Elizabeth Cooper of Boonton, NJ and his sister Ellen Woloszynek of Boonton, NJ and his Brother Edward Cooper of Hazlet, NJ. His two sons Donald and Jonathan Cooper.
Funeral from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ on Tuesday at 11:00AM for a 12PM Liturgy of Christian Burial service at St. Marys Church Denville, NJ. Interment Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Veterans Cemetery Wrightstown, NJ. Friends will be received Monday 2-4 and 7-9PM.
