Gunny Cooper,what can you really say about a man that gave of himself 100% to everything and everybody,and never looked for anything or rewards in return,I met Gunny in 1995 during a "Stand Down" for Homeless veterans,and just meeting him made a profound difference in my life,I got to see him as a Marine,in the role of a father and a man filled with kindness and compassion for others,No job was ever to much for Gunny to do,and never said No when called on to do something,be it Military or civilian related,A man that would take the whole month of December off and work tireless for 24 straight days on Toys For Tots sometimes on 3-4 hours sleep,his day would start sometimes 4-5am and end at 1-2am the following morning,and even Christmas Day he would be at an event to pass out presents to needy childern,a month that he could have used for his own rest and relaxation and a day Christmas Day which is a day of family he sacraficed to help others less fortunate than himself,Gunny was a one in a million man as a Marine he was a shinning example of what the Corps is all about,as a civilian he was to his sons a great father,everyone he knew a great friend,and a man who cared and loved his family greatly,Gunny I don't know why god chose to take you from this earth at such an early age,maybe the great Commandant in the sky figured your hard and dedicated work was at an end and so he ended your mission,Im sure when you reached the gates of heaven he was there to greet you,and tell you,"Gunny job well done" you were truely a remarkable man,an outstanding Marine and a terrific Human being,we will miss you dearly,but I know your mission will never end,if the Commandant in the sky said "I need a Gunny to take over a project" I know you'd be the first one there standing tall,saying "Yes Sir Gunny Cooper reporting for duty Sir" It is with much sadness that I say Farewell to you Gunny,but you will always be in our hearts,minds and prayers,and hopefully some day we will meet again,and laugh and remember all the events of years gone by,So now that you've answered your final Muster,and have taken your place beside your fellow Marines that went on before you,I say SEMPERFI GUNNY you will always be with us,we will miss you, maybe if we listen close enough we can hear you give a hearty OOOOORAHHHH from above,God Bless you Gunny and may you have eternal peace,Farewell Marine!!!I hope to see you when the final role call comes.
