I met "Grandma Marie" when my son Chuck was dating her granddaughter Diane who he later married in 2015.
Upon meeting Marie, I knew she was a singular person. Armed with a sharp wit, a mind bursting with knowledge and insights gained from a lifetime of reading, and a century's cache of memories, she made you sit up and take notice.
Marie was a living treasure to all who loved her and she treasured them in return.
And, one more thing I'll remember about "Grandma Marie" --- she wore her hats with grace, flair, and fun!
With my heartfelt sympathies,
Kathryn C. Salamone

So many memories to look back on... many involving her grandchildren. She never wanted to miss any of the milestones in the lives of her family members.

A year ago we celebrated as my mom waltzed in to celebrate her 98th birthday with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was cruising her way to 99 and beyond when Covid-19 took her from us. We'll be burying her on her birthday tomorrow instead of being together to celebrate her 99 wonderful years of living life to the fullest.
My mom's death is not tragic, she lived a long, full, rich life. She had a great run and ultimately lived the life that she dreamed of as a little girl. For her it is surely "mission accomplished". It is sad for us at this time because we couldn't be with her in her final days and we can't be together as family, to hug one another and give her a sendoff befitting the truly awesome person she was. When this coronavirus scourge is over, we will come together to celebrate Marie and the beautiful, remarkable life she led.
My mom was an inspiration to so many family and friends. Her love of music, literature, history, cooking, art, and most of all her passion for life, profoundly impacted all of us who knew and loved her. She had a terrific sense of humor, she was well versed in history, knowledgeable in current events, she was opinionated and inquisitive and could discuss diverse topics from the lineage of European kings and queens to cosmology and the origins of the universe. She was a compassionate caregiver, often selfless when looking after others who were sick and needed comforting. And of course, she loved her martinis - Beefeater, extra dry, straight up with a twist. Her legacy is rich and her influence runs broad and deep. Her memory will live on.

Couldn’t have asked for a better mom. She taught us so much and instilled in us an appreciation of life. And when her grandchildren came along she taught them a great deal too. She will be greatly missed. Love you mom!
