Obituary of Frances C. Compton

Frances Claire Compton, age 83 and 364 days, was a lifelong New Jersey resident, born in Hoboken, raised in North Arlington and spent the rest of her life at Cedar Lake, Denville. She attended St. Aloyisius Academy in Jersey City. After graduation she worked at Prudential Insurance where she met Clyde Warren Compton. They married in 1947 and lived at Cedar Lake where they raised three sons. She was a devoted wife to her husband who predeceased her in 1986.
She is survived by her family, including son Warren Compton of Frenchtown and his wife Carol, daughters Donna and Tracy, and grandaughter Ashley; son Bruce of Huntsville Alabama, his wife Suzanne, and their children Ian, Erik and Kimberly; son Kevin of Denville NJ and Palo Alto California, his wife Donna and son Gustav. She also leaves brother John Callahan of Kenilworth, sister Ruth Lange of Hawley PA.
Frances was an avid letter-writer and skilled conversationalist, well-noted for her vast stores of memories and observations which she relayed with remarkable detail, wit and tact. Her generosity and caring for others extended well beyond her family to friends at Cedar Lake and around the world. She was a member of the Cedar Lake Ladie's Auxilliary; Ladies Who Lunch Book Club; St. Clare's Hospital Auxilliary and voluteer for the hospital Gift Shop and Harvest Festival; Docent at Denville Historical Society; volunteer for the Denville Environmental Commission; member of the Mother's Guild of Delbarton.
Funeral service on Friday March 15 at 10:00AM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ (973)-627-1880, www.normandean.com. Interment Denville Cemetery. Friends will be received Thursday 2-4 and 7-9PM.
