Outstanding Teacher
Virginia Marie Fox (Dwyer) passed away at St. Clares Hospital in Denville on January 12, 2008.
She was 70 years old.
Born in Glen Ridge, she was raised in Caldwell, and had lived in Lake Hopatcong, NJ for 40 years.
At Mt. St. Dominick High School she was on the basketball team that won 89 games in a row, she also scored 48 points in one game, which at the time was a NJ State High School record. She was on the Star Ledger's Third Team All Century for girls basketball in the era of 1950-1959.
Virginia received her bachelors degree in education from Caldwell College in 1977. She had worked as a 6th grade math teacher at Jefferson Twp. Middle School for 32 years before retiring in 1998. In 1986 she was given the Outstanding Teacher Award in Jefferson Twp., and in Morris County.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, James F. Fox of Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
Her children Virginia A. Scaglione of Franklin, TN, James J. Fox Jr. of Denville, NJ, Mark T. Fox Cincinnati, OH, and Margaret M. Fox of Florham Park, NJ survive her. Her 5 grandchildren and her siblings Michael T. Dwyer of Newtown Square, PA, June Castano of West Caldwell, NJ, and Carole Collins of Brewster, NY also survive her.
