I met Bruce once at a SHARE. I remember not which one but it doesn't matter. He was the same in person as he had always been and has been on the phone. I am sincerely going to miss him. He was a well spring of knowledge that could be tapped when you were in trouble with a DASD or Tape related problem. He will be sorely missed on several list-servers. Although his posts to those will probably answer questions for years to come. May his family be comforted that he is in a far better place and his health there will be rejuvinated. May he rest in peace. Jim

Lainey, Please accept my deepest sympathies upon the passing of Bruce. I'll always remember his help and patience with us during all of fundraising days at Lakeview, especially with the Fun Fair. He always had a pleasant smile and kind word and would offer to help us with PTA functions in any way possible. He certainly was a very fine example to all of the boys that he led in Scouts. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.

Our Brother-In-Law and Uncle:
When the Links of Life are Broken
And Loved Ones have to part,
It leaves a wound that never Heals
An ever aching heart.
So it does not take a Special Day
To bring Him to our minds
For days that we do not think of Him
Are very hard to find.
We lost a "Link" in Our Family, God gained a "Link" in His Family. You will never be forgotten because YOU Live on in our Hearts. Thank You for all the Beautiful Memories.

I never met Bruce personally, but was an avid reader of his posts on IBM-Main and work throughout the mainframe community. He was obviously a very intelligent man, but he also maintained grace and common kindness with everything he did. His knowledge and his persona are an inspiration to all of us and he will sorely be missed. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and loved ones. He will forever be remembered in the mainframe community as he was the epitome of class and excellence.

I first met Bruce in a den leader training seminar for Cub Scouts. Bruce made such an impression on me as an instructor but also as an enthusiastic, caring volunteer in the scout organization. He made everything fun, always smiling and laughing. I stayed in scouts with my son,Nick, til he made Eagle. Thank you Bruce for that first impression.
Thank you for also being the ladies escort to the Harvest Ball. Nice to see you in a tux instead of a scout uniform sometimes1 You will be remembered fondly be me.

Bruce was always in the office next to me for 18+ years -- unless he was sitting behind Tony either providing wanted (or unwanted) guidance or taking a quick snooze when things got dull. I can still see him belly dancing with the dancer we brought in as a birthday surprise for John many years ago. When I got the word that Bruce was not coming back to that office he "lived" in for so many years I went in and placed a picture of him at the office picnic (taken many years ago) face up in his chair. Somehow it seems as if he's still here. Bless you, Bruce. I miss the hell outta' you. Much love --

Hi,
Bruce was the most frequent contact for me and many others with Innovation and he represented the company very well. He was a pleasure to work with both as an FDR customer and as a vendor who had to understand what Innovation products like FDRPAS were doing. He had a wealth of knowledge about MVS I/O and was willing to share whenever he was allowed. I know Bruce was much more than his work. He was a good man who has gone to a good mans rest and he will be missed. Know that Bruce lives on through his work, his words which still echo for years to come, and in good memories of him by those who knew him or his words and works.
Peace,
Sam Knutson, GEICO

When I first came to Innovation, I met Bruce and he immediately became my hero. He seemed to be able to do everything. Deal with Tony, write documentation, do presentations, write code, do sophisticated research. He was a true renassance man. Something I always have strived for, but Bruce accomplished. I use a monitor that was a cast off of his. I will think about him every day. And miss him every day. Of all of the people I've met professionally, he was the one that hit me the hardest as the man whom I'd like to emulate. Maybe someday, I can be Bruce Black. But that would be asking a whole lot. I love you Bruce.

There really aren't proper words to say how much Bruce was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him. For some years I was lucky enough to have the office next door to him, and I still never understood how he managed to know so much, do so much, and help so many people so easily. As frustrating and unfair as it must have been, I never once heard him complain about his health. Bruce was without doubt one of the best men I've ever had the good fortune to know.
