George P. Claxton, 76, died on Thursday June 28, 2007 at the Saint Clares Hospital, Denville, NJ.
Mr. Claxton was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a resident of Waldwick and Teaneck, NJ before moving to Franciscan Oaks in Denville, NJ in 2004. Mr. Claxton was an Associate Professor at the Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck and he retired in 1992 after 27 years of service. Mr. Claxton, as a social scientist, educator and college administrator and his greatest strength was his ability to guide students into and through complex educational experiences from which he received great rewards and satisfactions. During his tenure at F.D.U. he concentrated his efforts on service to students and to the University. Mr. Claxton served on numerous administration positions and committees. His memberships to the numerous educational associations were many. Mr. Claxton was a member and served in many capacities for the Ethical Culture Society of Bergen County.
His wife Margaret in 1999 and his daughter Wendy Claxton in 2003 predeceased him.
He is survived by his daughter Bonnie Sturm and her husband Neal of Randolph, NJ his two granddaughters, Sarah and Lauren Sturm, his brother William Claxton of Long Island, NY and his former wife Mary Ann Claxton of Teaneck, NJ.
The funeral will be conducted from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ www.normandean.com (light a candle on website in memory of George), on Monday July 2nd at 10:00am, interment services at Hackensack Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received on Sunday July 1st from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
