Gerard F. McCarthy died on Monday Aug.6, 2012 at Franciscan Oaks Health Center in Denville, NJ. He was born in Hoboken and lived in Jersey City and North Bergen before moving to Denville in 2011. Gerard served in the US Navy during the Korean War, and following the war he worked for the Hudson County Sheriff's Office. His career spanned 28 years and he retired in 1996 as a Lieutenant. He has been a member of the American Legion Post #116 in Edgewater, and has been a member of N.J. Honor Legion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Frances, and his daughter and son in-law Geraldine and Michael McCarthy of Parsippany, NJ. He is predeceased by his parents Harry and Elizabeth McCarthy, and his six siblings Eleen Norlander, Henry McCarthy, Michael McCarthy, Margaret Lemkuhl, Marion Atkinson, and Maureen McCarthy. A Mass of Christian Burial Service will be held on Fri. Aug. 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's RC Church in Denville, NJ. Following the Mass he will be buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ www.normandean.com.
