Alfred J. Chappel, died on Saturday January 13, 2007 at the Franciscan Oaks Health Center in Denville, he was 89. Alfred resided in the Denville area for about a year, prior to that Alfred was a life resident of New York City. Alfred was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School, City College and earned a Masters Degree in Industrial Safety from NYU. He was a Lieutenant in the NYPD for twenty-seven years earning the PBA Medal of Valor in 1953 and retiring in 1966. He also was a Simultaneous Translator at the U.N. and was a Lieutenant in the US Navy during WWII. Alfred was fluent in Spanish and Italian, he loved to read and write poetry and quotations. He was also an excellent golfer winning many outings he played in. Surviving Alfred is his wife of fifty-five years Mary Elizabeth and his son John and his wife Christine Ganitsch of Basking Ridge NJ. All services for Alfred will be held privately under the direction of the Norman Dean Home For Services 16 Righter Ave Denville NJ, www.normandean.com In Lieu of flowers donations in Alfreds name maybe made to Habitat for Humanity.
