Chris, and his sister Valerie, were childhood friends of mine when we all lived in White Meadow Lake on Seneca Avenue. I lived in one of the houses on the dead end road. We used to play together all the time until they moved to Denville. I have fond memories of those times and often thought about what they were doing now.
I send my deepest condolences.

Dear Mrs. Sheerer and Valerie,
I was saddened to hear of Chris' passing, and I offer you my sincere condolences for your loss. I remember when you first moved to Denville, and have great memories of Chris from when we were young. I didn't see Chris much after high school and I moved to VA 10 years ago. I did run into Chris a few times over the years and he always had a smile and something nice to say.

Chris and I met in 1978 after we had both recently moved to Denville. We were the outsiders and that was our earliest common bond. We became good friends and were fortunate to have an extraordinary group of friends around us. After high school we went in seperate directions. I joined the army in 1985 and Chris went to college. We lost touch with one another for most of the next 16 years. A few years ago our good friend Dave Wylie passed away, his death being the catalyst through which Chris and I reconnected. For the last few years Chris would come and spend Christmas at my house and we were blessed with the opportunity to have some fun times together again. We had both grown to measure our wealth by the beauty of our friendships and regardless of our social status knew we were rich beyond compare. Over the last few years Chris would "go dark," disappearing off of our radar for long periods and then resurfacing. It hurt Chris to be confronted by the knowledge that what he was doing to himself was hurting the people he loved and who loved him, so he would keep to himself.
I think we have all asked ourselves if we did all we could do to help him, and the answer, quite simply, is yes. All of us did everything that we could possibly do and more, but nothing could stop something that had gathered so much momentum.
I am forever thankful that we got to spend so much time together over the last few years, going to concerts and my first NASCAR race, holidays, and the help he gave me running the music festival, going to Great Adventure, and making some new friends with my friends that Chris had never met. He was a beautiful person and he was and always will be like a brother to me. He was never comfortable here in his own skin. I know he is comfortable now. With you goes a part of me that nothing can replace.

My sincere and deepest condolences to the Sheerer family. My memories of Chris are wonderful ones. He was a faithful friend during our high school years, and I can recall many times when he went out of his way to be helpful and kind to me and others. I know Chris endured some difficult times, but I will always remember the joy he had in our youth and the friendship he offered. My prayers are with the family. May God comfort you.
