Richard Belden Smith 80 Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Uncle Richard Smith Dick of Morris Plains on Friday September 22, 2006 following a brief illness he was 80. Born in Phillipsburg NJ Richard resided in Morris Plains since 1958. Richard served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a recruiter, supply staff, and Master Sergeant. Richard served a total of twenty years in the Army being stationed in Germany and Korea. Richard met his true love in Germany his beloved wife Margaret who passed away in 1982. Richard received many commendations for his service including, Expert Rifle M-14, Six Good Conduct Awards, EAME Ribbon, Bronze Star, Presidential Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, WWII Victory Ribbon Occupational Ribbon, and Sharp Shooter Rifle M1and M3 Oversea Bars Authorized. Upon retiring from the Army Richard worked for twenty-nine years at Picatinny Arsenal as a Personnel Manager and Security Control Specialist. Richard was a member of St. Virgils parish in Morris Plains where he was a Deacon for several years. Richard actively supported many charities and will be remembered for his even temperament, his love and kindness of nature and photography. He was loved by many and will be sadly missed. Richard is the beloved father of Conrad Smith of Morris Plains, Mark Smith of Montague, and Regina and Thomas Bullock of Jefferson Township. Brother of Bob Smith. Cherished Grandfather of Madeline Smith, Chris, Jonathan, and Samantha Bullock and Great-Grandfather to Alexis. Uncle of Barbara Helmer, Wayne Smith, Tracy Shambley, and Colin Donegan. Many nieces and Great nieces and nephews also survive Richard. Richard was pre-deceased by his loving wife Margaret and his first child Patsy who died days after birth as well as his brother Alden. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday September 27, 2006 at 10:00am at St. Virgils Church in Morris Plains.
