Jim passed peacefully at home surrounded by his wife, five children and ten grandchildren. Jim was a proud Irish immigrant who loved to sing and enjoyed a good laugh. A hard working mason's laborer, Jim had a hand in constructing some of NYC's historic landmarks. He is survived by beloved wife Monica Dougherty (nee Wright), adoring daughters Maureen Cox, Christine Greggor, and Pauline O'Donnell; proud sons Thomas Dougherty and Kieran Dougherty; son-in-laws Alfred Cox, Stephen O'Donnell, and Keith Greggor; daughter-in-laws Maryanne Dougherty and Susan Dougherty; grandchildren Cory and Shannon Cox, Alexis Greggor, Colleen, Aidan and Kelly O'Donnell, Monica and Shane Dougherty, and Ciaran and Brogan Dougherty. Jim immigrated to the United States from Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1955. Where he met his wife Mona, married and had five children, residing in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, moving to Rockaway in 1996. Jim was a Eucharist Minister at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church in Rockaway as well as St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ridgefield Park, NJ. In earlier days, Jim was a member of the Belfast Golf Club enjoying a round of golf each Saturday with his fellow Irish men and an occasional Italian to carry his bag. Jim was predeceased by his loving mother Mary Dougherty (nee Donnelly), his brother Joseph Dougherty and more recently his sister, Teenie (Christine) Dougherty. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 17th. St. Cecilia's is located at 70 Church Street, Rockaway, N.J. During this season of Thanksgiving, those who wish may make a donation in Jim's memory to the Rockaway Food Pantry located at the First Presbyterian Church, 35 Church Street, Rockaway, NJ 07866.
