We have lost a wonderful person much too soon. I am glad to have known him and will always remember his thoughtfulness and the "twinkle" in his eyes.

When I was a little girl, my father used to take me to feed the ducks. Every year, we watched Wizard of Oz together. When he shaved his beard for the first time, I cried for hours. I didn’t recognize him. He had to have surgery on his mouth and was relegated to baby food. I was a kindergartner, but I ate it too, so he wouldn’t feel bad. He used to take me to my grandparent’s house. I lived in a little pool in the back yard and I was obsessed with my Grandfather’s boats in a bottle collection. I was the first grandchild, and I was doted on. My Dad used to love to tickle me until I couldn’t breathe and had the hiccups. My mother hated that. She always told him to stop. But I was always happy when he spent time with me. There was a creek up the road from Grandma and Grandpa Malson’s house. Dad used to take me there and we’d watch the tadpoles swim. He’d let me cross on the slippery rocks, and sometimes I fell. But sometimes I didn’t. In those moments, he taught me to reach a little further and not be afraid to fall.
As oftentimes happens, when divorce became the reality of my family, my father became less and less involved in my life.
I am thankful, that though he fell, when it came to our relationship that he got back up and crossed to the other side and back into my life.
I guess you get to follow that yellow brick road and meet the Humbug behind the curtain, Dad. Safe Journeys. Watch out for the Flying Monkeys. <3
