Dear Maria, Sheldon, Billy, Alexa and Danielle,
We can't begin to understand the pain and sadness that you are going through. We had only one Grandmother and she was nothing like YaYa. Your YaYa was more like a Grandmother to us too. She was, and always will be remembered as a "wanna be" Grandmother to both of us. We did more with her and felt closer to her than we have with our own Grandmother. All the trips we took and car rides, skiing, dinners, movies and everything in between...YaYa was a one of a kind mother and Grandmother. She will never be forgotten. Our hearts hurt for your loss and we want you to know that your family is like family to us. If not for the Lowe's and YaYa and Aunt Mae, our life would be a far emptier place. Thank you for sharing your YaYa with us and for being our best friends. We know how you are always there for us and for our mom. We want you to know that we are here for you too. We miss you and hope to see you very soon.
I hope we can see you for Thanksgiving. We miss Alexa and Billy and I (Pierce) miss you, Maria, Sheldon and Danielle. You have a great family and tons of friends who love and care about you. We are saying prayers for YaYa and for your family. Right now, we know we can only offer our love and support to you guys, but our words are genuine.
God Bless,
Pierce & Brooke Bailey

How can I express the loss I feel at your passing, comforted only to know that you are with the Lord and have found peace.
You didn't know it, but you meant so much to me all my life. I so admired you from as far back as I can remember. One of my earliest memories is of you as a bride and how in awe of you I was. You were the fairy princess getting married and one of my favorite photos is the one of you, Anna, Lisa and me before your wedding in your parents' bedroom. You were my role model, when I played house, I was Maria. I wanted to be just like you; gorgeous, fashionable, married to a doctor, a great housekeeper, and a great mommy. You were beautiful, kind, patient, and loving. The sweetness, compassion and understanding that you had for everyone, especially all of us "kids," influenced me more than you will ever know. It has become a part of my life today not only with my own children and grandchildren, but with all the students I work with each and everyday. What I learned from you brought me success and happiness in both my personal and professional life. Yesterday, I was agonized that I wasn't at your funeral, but as strange as it is, I was at a school assembly that began at 11:30am as part of a fund raiser sponsored by our pre-med club for a student on our Plantation campus, Kevin, who is a cancer survivor ( 1 year) and an organization "Go for the Goal" that supports pediatric cancer patients. I was moved to tears thinking of you and how you loved children.
Thank you Maria, for who you were and what you taught me. I will forever be grateful. As I have prayed for you though out your challenge each and every day, as in our Greek tradition, I will continue to pray for your soul. "Eonia sou i mnimi" May your memory be eternal.

To a woman who gave with so much heart to everyone she loved. Yaya was just phenomenal in so many ways... She will live on in your hearts, your shared memories and all the teachings she has left ingrained in your souls. I am sure wherever she is she will continue to be Yaya looking over and being protective of her family. My prayers are with all of you - Maria, Sheldon, Billy, Alexa, Danielle and the whole Marshall clan.

Dear Maria, Billy, Anna, Blair and Tara, From the time I really got to know your mom which was at the Diner 20 years ago, I knew I met a "keeper friend." She was all about making the people in her life "feel good." She emulated goodness, kindness, compassion, empathy, respect, honesty, selflessness. We walk through life and we meet a lot of people along the way, but rarely do we meet someone that we can say is "complete." My life is richer because of your mother. Thank you for sharing her with me. I will miss her.

I first met Yaya at Maria and Sheldon's home in the Hampton's. Although I knew her when she was already ill, Yaya's grace, strength and dignity coupled with her youthful zest for life made a strong impression on me. We shared a common ethnicity and I loved hearing her stories about her Greek family as she was growing up. I felt I knew her much longer than I did and that was her gift, as she made people feel like they were family. I know that as the day is long, Yaya is in heaven and will always be close to her beloved family.

YaYa, as I knew her even though I wasn't family, always tried to make me feel like "family" (her word) as I spent time with her grandchildren Alexa, Billy, & Danielle. She was always encouraging and supportive of our endeavors. May you be at peace, YaYa.

Dearest Maria, Sheldon, Billy, Alexa, Danielle Lowe & Marshall Family. We are forever grateful for the joy that YaYa brought to our family. Maria or "YaYa" as she was known, was more than a Grandmother, a Mother, a Sister, a Friend, she is a Legend. She is an inspiration to all that that have been lucky enough to have known her. I look back on her "Old Fashioned" drinks, crabbing, biking, skiing, the Hamptons, Key Biscayne, or wherever she was, she brought joy. Incredibly talented-- sewing, baking, cooking, child rearing...I think of Halloween costumes, many meals, movies, and memories with Beloved YaYa.
Death leaves us with pain that no one can heal, but
LOVE leaves us with MEMORIES that no one can steal
God Bless

Tara and Family, my deepest sympathies to you all. Your mom was such an amazing woman! I don't think I could say it any better than Denise Soriano Birch! I couldn't keep up with Maria while she was visiting - when we were organizing and painting! I will never forget the time we arranged and rearranged the livingroom one day before Tara came home from work. Your mom will always hold a special place in my heart. Bless you all. XOXO

Enjoying my first vodka tonic in one of your amazing pieces of Crystal...never tasted as good any other time.. cocktails and dinner at Taras house numerous times....admiring how you could accomplish so much in a week in Rhode Island (painting, organizing)...my first Greek Easter in New Jersey and finding chocolates on my pillow. Many phone calls discussing the south beach diet. Your love of my banana bread recipe. Thanks for bringing into this world my best friend.
