Harriet (Pat) Fischer
Harriet "Pat" (ne Headrick) Fischer, 95, of Denville, formerly of Kenilworth, passed away on July 22, 2014. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 27th from 3-5 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Interment will be on Monday, July 28th at 10:30 am at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to VNA Hospice, 175 South St. Morristown, NJ 07960. Mrs. Fischer was born in Newark on September 30, 1918 to Minnie and William Headrick and grew up in Newark and Irvington. Along with her mother and sister, Pat was an active member of the Daughters of America. She married John J. Fischer on August 8, 1942. Pat and John Fischer were active in the German-American National Turnverein/National Turners organization in Irvington for many years, organizing and participating in Turners shows and German dinners. They loved to entertain and cook for family and friends.
Mrs. Fischer worked for many years as a jeweler for Spain & Sons in New York before retiring in 1980. Before moving to Denville in 2010, she lived in Kenilworth for 43 years. She was active in the Kenilworth Senior Citizens and the Union County AARP, as well as a volunteer for many years at the United Methodist Church Thrift Shop.
Mrs. Fischer was predeceased by her husband, John J. Fischer, her brothers William Headrick and Charles Headrick and sister Marge McGirr. She is survived by her nieces Linda Cronin and her husband Jim, Joyce Berntsen and her husband Bob, her nephews Bob Headrick and his wife Alice, and Richard McGirr and his wife Lida, as well as great-nephews Rob and Michael Berntsen, Bob and Tom Headrick and Daniel and Jeffrey McGirr. She will be remembered as a loving, caring and fun-loving Sister and Aunt.
