Obituary of Lars Svaasand

Lars Svaasand, 85, of Rockaway Twp., NJ passed away at Morristown Memorial Hospital on April 27, 2014. Born in Kopervik, Norway, Lars came to the United States in 1938. He grew up in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn and attended Brooklyn Technical School. Lars became a U.S. citizen and proudly served in the U.S. Army at White Sands, New Mexico during the Korean War. After working in New York as a graphic designer with a specialty in airbrush rendering and photo retouching, Lars founded his own advertising agency Lars & Associates in Hibernia, NJ. Clients included Warner Lambert, M&M Mars, EDO Aire, Butler Aviation, Ace Combs and Bloomfield College, among many. He was CEO for 30 years before retiring to live in the Florida Keys in 1994. Lars held a pilot's license and also loved to build model airplanes and ships. He was a member of the Rockaway Twp. Board of Education, past president of the Rockaway Rotary Club and past president of the Marcella Community Center. Lars is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Elsie O. (Hagstrom) Svaasand of Rockaway Twp. He is also survived by his loving daughter Ingrid O. Sceusi and son-in-law Judge Louis S. Sceusi of Rockaway Twp., NJ, as well as his grandchildren Dr. Eric L. and his wife Angira Sceusi of Houston, TX and Lauren O. Sceusi of Rockaway Twp., NJ and his great grandchildren Ryan and Mira. A memorial visitation will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 on Sunday May 4, 2014 from 1-3PM with a 2:30 service in the funeral home.
