Obituary of Elizabeth Ann Bakelas
Elizabeth Ann Bakelas (Black) passed away on Monday December 4, 2017, at the young age of 55, at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ surrounded by family and friends. To all those who knew and loved her, she was “Liz.”
She was a lifelong resident of Denville and grew up in Indian Lake on Lenape Island. She was a waitress for over 30 years before becoming a fulltime grandmother. She was a huge Stephen King enthusiast and an even bigger Bruce Springsteen fan.
She was predeceased by her father Francis X. Black Sr. in May 2007, her mother Dolores J. Black in December 2004 and her brother Francis X. Black Jr. in April 1989. Additionally she was predeceased by her plump chocolate lab Riley in 2011.
She is survived by her brother Joseph Black of Rockaway, her loving spouse Dimitrios “Jim” Bakelas of Denville, two sons, Nicholas Bakelas of Brooklyn, and Themistoklis “Tohm” Bakelas and his wife Erin Krivulka of Landing. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Ellen Black and best friends Ava Argenio and Donna Zablatzky. Most importantly, she was crowned “Momo” by the two creatures in life that brought her the most happiness in her remaining years, her grandchildren, Dylan and Kaydence Bakelas. For her grandchildren, there was nothing she would not do. She may have loved her family and friends dearly, but she cherished and adored her grandchildren. Undoubtedly, they were her “everything.” Additionally, it should be noted that she is survived by her robust, spherically challenged canine companion Abe.
She will be greatly missed by family, friends, Abe, local bakeshops, and all those who had the opportunity to know or be touched by such a loving and caring person.
Family, friends, and relatives are asked to attend a memorial service on Sunday December 10th from 1pm - 3pm at the Norman Dean Home for Services on 16 Righter Ave in Denville, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saint Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center would be appreciated. https://www.sthuberts.org/donate
