Hi Everyone:
I am happy remembering, and writing, these thoughts about Uncle Marty, but then I remember why, and feel so sad. Each summer, we would anticipate Aunt Stella's and Uncle Marty's visit for days, and jump up and down when they arrived from Jersey to our summer house in Wading River, loaded down with enough food for weeks, and ready to begin the fun immediately. The long hikes were the best: just the kids and Uncle Marty. Starting out, about a block away from home, on the main road, he would say, "Okay, everyone take your shoes off! Barefoot." "But we're not allowed to do that, Uncle Marty." And his answer was one that a kid would love: "Don't tell." Nothing tired him out. He was loads of fun. And, at night when we were in bed, if it was the weekend, and my father was with us, we could hear my mother and father laughing and laughing in the kitchen, at one of Uncle Marty's many, many stories. I loved it when I got married, and moved to Jersey, and Aunt Stella and Uncle Marty would visit us and our kids several times a year, in their fifties, before they retired and moved. As recently as this December, incredibly, Uncle Marty was in touch with several of my grandchildren! And Courtney, Tim, and Michael, my children, heard from him also. His handwriting might have gotten a bit shakey, but his love was strong. Whenever he contacted my mother (his sister) in the last few years, he would sign off as "Your Kid Brother," which amazed me every time I read it. That was Uncle Marty, larger than life! There are so many good things, deeply good things, that we all will treasure knowing, and remembering, about both Uncle Marty and Aunt Stella. I knew I was on Aunt Stella's daily prayer list, and that was so very comforting to me. Although it's more than a decade since Aunt Stella is gone, I keep her holy card near me, and talk to her often. Now, my hope is that Uncle Marty and Aunt Stella are forever together, as young as we remember them, and as full of life, in Heaven.

Martin rest in peace as I have known him for quite a few years. He was an excellent first aider and an integral part of the Community Emergency Response Team in Manchester. I always enjoyed his company and his ability to help others when they needed it. My prayers and thoughts are with your family in this time of sorry. May he rest in peace.

To My Godfather, Uncle Marty,
"When Irish eyes are smiling, all the world seems bright and gay..." Having learned this song as a child, the words now have an immediate association for me-that's Uncle Marty! We recall the joy he radiated when in his presence. Uncle Marty loved life and he was always smiling, not just with his mouth but in his eyes. "...in the midst of Irish laughter you can hear the angels sing..." Yes, Uncle Marty you guided me to feel God's presence. Now you join the angels and still watch over me. We give thanks for your 92 years as our Uncle Marty. We will hear your laughter again. We pray for you and Aunt Stella, both of you gifts to all of us.
Love, Patti and Bob

Uncle Marty was a classic and always fun. As a child, I remember that he was constantly smiling and would speak to you . He did everything with PASSION. Whether it was talking about his family or the responsibilities of a bridge tender or being an EMT, passion was a part of his persona. We wish you well Uncle Marty and know you are home with Aunt Stella.

Thanks Uncle Marty. The great times you gave us as kids will never be forgotten. When we had pump problems and had no water at the summer house, I remember you getting up at 6 a.m. and walking to the state park to bring back water for all of us. You carried two 5 gallon cans full of water more than 2 miles. You certainly taught me the meaning of "can do". Thank you for it all. Especially "Clay Mountain".

I remember Mr. & Mrs. Mackin at the many NJ holiday gatherings that my Dad,brother and I attended over the years. Although I don't remember any conversations specifically, I clearly recall laughter and a lot of it! Particularly Mr. Mackins laugh, whose was infectious and lit up his whole face. I'm so glad to have met 2 fine examples of love and kindness. May you be reunited with your loving wife and Rest In Peace.

Hi Dad,
I miss you already even though you left us to go to Ma in heaven a couple days ago. I'm sure you're happy seeing your bride Stella of 53 years again. You are probably telling all your Irish Blarney tales to St. Peter now. Ma is probably telling you to stop telling your stories. She wants to go shopping at the Heavenly Super Market. She wants to use her coupons she cut out.
See you down the Irish Road:
LOVE ALWAYS,
YOUR BOY MARTY

Dear Dad,
You are an inspiration to me. You fought hard for our country in WWII, married the love of your life Stella, and raised a wonderful family. You helped so many people in so many ways. I will talk to you in my prayers as you will be my guiding light. Thank you for everything. And, tell mom that I miss her.
Love,
Your daughter-in-law
