Obituary of Helen E. Portine

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Helen Elizabeth Portine, 91, beloved wife of Henri L. Portine, died on Monday, December 30, 2013, at home surrounded by family. The youngest of six children, Helen was born and raised in Verona, NJ. Following her brothers’ love of aviation, Helen briefly took lessons at Somerset-Hills Airport before deciding piloting was not for her, but not before meeting her future husband. She and her husband settled in Parsippany, NJ in 1952. Helen was an expert baker, knitter, and seamstress, with an interest in arts and crafts. She pursued her interest in pottery, participating in many shows, including The Carriage House Potters of Boonton, NJ. She was also an avid reader. Above all, Helen was a devoted wife and mother. In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her devoted children, Richard “Lee” Portine and Gail C. Portine, and her brother, Arthur R. Littlefield. The family would like to thank the Morris County Library system for their many years of assistance. They also request that you consider making a donation to the Atlantic Hospice, 465 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960.
