Anthony N. “Tony” La Porta Jr, 87, died on Wednesday December 18, 2013 at his home in Las Vegas, NV. following a short illness.
He was born and raised in Madison, NJ and after marrying his wife Evelyn H. Phelan they moved to Denville, after retiring they moved to Las Vegas in 1993.
Tony served in the US Army during WWII where he was stationed in Korea. After the war he worked for the Labor Union Local #54 in Madison, NJ and served as Foreman, and worked with the Frank Brisco Construction Co. in NJ and in several other states.
Tony worked hard throughout his life sometimes working two jobs trying to take care of his family. He enjoyed bowling and always had a great time. He and Evelyn especially loved there time living in Las Vegas.
His wife of 59 years, Evelyn Phelan La Porta died in 2007 and a daughter Margaret died previously.
He is survived by his children Jo Ann and Hubert Talmadge of Hopatcong, Anthony “Tony” La Porta of Burbank, CA, Linda La Porta of Las Vegas, Valerie La Porta of Hopatcong, and Michael La Porta of Tehachapi, CA. and his sister Helen Vanderzee of Madison, NJ.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Krista Ann, Jacqueline, Anthony, Mark, Nicholas, Theresa, Daniel, Diana, Colleen, W. Riley, Gina, Eric, Angela, Amanda, Jessica, Michael, and Christopher “CJ”.
His great grandchildren Kerri Ann, Kelli, Madisen, Garrett, Caiden, Maddox, Noah, Madison, Henry, Max, Kate, Vinny, Ava, Abbigail, Addylin and Cody.
Funeral from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ on Sat. Dec. 28, 2013 at 9:00 AM for a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial Service at St. Mary’s RC Church in Denville, NJ.
Friends and family will be visiting on Friday Dec. 27, 2013 from 4-8 PM.
