Philip William Engle passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 20, 2016. He was 73 years young.
Phil graduated from the State University of NY Maritime College with a BS in Meteorology. He made a very successful career for himself in the Aviation Industry, working at the third largest general aviation airport in the country, Teterboro Airport, for over 35 years, including 20 years as the Airport Manager. He was hand-picked to run the airport for the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. He won many awards and recognition for his work in aviation, highlighted by his induction into the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey in 1999.
He took pride in his family and spent as much time with them as he could. In his spare time, he loved to read, fish, cook, and travel. He also volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader and Coach. He was an avid Giants and Devils fan. Phil was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will remain in our hearts and souls forever.
Left to keep his legacy alive is his beloved wife of 47 years, Helen; his loving parents, Elizabeth Engle and the late Philip Engle; his adored children, Philip (Dawn) Engle, Robert (Nicole) Engle, and Kathryn (Daniel) Wu; his cherished grandchildren, Philip, Kayla, Aidan, Logan, Isabella, Tyler, and Charlotte; his caring sisters, Betty Engle and Nancy Lynch; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 24th at 10:00 am at Saint Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, 5635 Berkshire Valley Rd, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438. Visitation will take place on Wed., March 23rd from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Phil's memory to the National Kidney Foundation by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. Please leave a condolence for his family.
