Hortense Justin, 86, previously of Marstons Mills, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, with her loving family by her side in New Jersey.
Born and raised in the Bronx, Hortense moved to White Plains, NY with her husband, Lawrence, in 1960 to raise their two young daughters. In 1988, after vacationing in West Dennis every summer for over 25 years, Horty and Larry moved to The Cape to enjoy their retirement in Marstons Mills, along with several of their dearest friends. When Larry passed away in 1994, Hortense found comfort in joining the "Monday Mommas" support group and in volunteering at the Cape Cod Hospice Thrift Shop. Horty also enjoyed several opportunities to travel with the Elderhostel program.
Hortense is survived by her daughters, Risa Kallas (David) of Denville, New Jersey and Barbara Higgins of Rochester, New York; her beloved grandchildren, Nicole Cannici (Matthew) of West Orange, New Jersey, Keith Kallas and Justin Higgins, both of Brooklyn, New York; her sweet sister Florence Caplan of Baltimore, Maryland; and Florence's daughters, Dina and Beth.
A private burial service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, where Horty will join Larry, has been arranged under the direction of Norman Dean Home for Services, Denville, New Jersey. Please visit www.normandean.com to leave a condolence for Hortense's family.
