Ruth M. Atkins, 84, of Denville, passed away peacefully Morristown Medical Center on Sunday, September 20, 2015.
Born in South Orange, Ruth was a lifelong Indian Lake resident in Denville. She owned and operated The Milkshed in Denville for 6 years. Following that, she drove the Denville Township School Bus for 5 years before settling into her 25 year career with AT&T, retiring as the Finance Manager. Starting out in High School, being the president of the Girl Athletic Association, she was an incredible athlete. An avid bowler and golfer, she won many championships in golf and held the record in the 600 series for bowling. At the age of 75, she accomplished her first hole in one while in Florida. Ruth was a member of the Peace Pipe Country Club. She was a very independent, strong willed woman and mother that will be sorely missed.
Predeceased by her son W. Alan Atkins (1992) and her brother Willard P. Predmore (1993), she is survived by her adored daughter Kathleen Banka (George) of Whitehouse; her cherished grandchildren Christopher of Manville and Anne Marie of Vorhees; her caring sister Catherine Masar of Bridgewater; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and one great-great nephew.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 25th at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Denville Cemetery, Denville. Visitation will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, on Thursday, September 24th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Please leave a condolence and special memory for her family.
