Robert C. Schofield, 81, passed away on Friday June 1, 2012 at the Compassionate Care Unit at St. Francis Hospital in Trenton, NJ.
Robert was born in Rockaway and was a lifelong resident of Rockaway Borough, NJ. Robert served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Mechanical Engineer Technician at Picatinny Arsenal for many years retiring in 1985. Following his retirement he worked in the Recreation Department at Picatinny Arsenal as a Wood Shop Teacher. Robert was a member of the Colonial’s Alumni Drum and Bugle Corp of Morristown, he played Snare Drum since he was 11 years old. Robert was Past President of the Rockaway Babe Ruth League, and was a Coach and Manager of the Babe Ruth League. He also was a Coach for the Rockaway Rams Football League. He was a past President of the Rockaway Jay-Cee’s. He was a member of the Rockaway Recreation Committee and the Rockaway Boro Super Seniors and Past President. Robert was a member and Past President of the Rockaway Boro Historical Society. He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader with Pack #122 and Troop #122. Robert was a member of the American Legion Rock-Den Post #175 and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.
Robert was predeceased in 2010 by his wife Norma M. (Nee Dougherty) Schofield and his brother Charles T. Schofield.
Robert is survived by his Daughter, Noralee K. Meehan, his sons, Robert C. Schofield and his wife Elizabeth, and Richard L. Schofield and his wife Sherrell, and his 3 Grandchildren, Melissa Papadopolo, Jessica and Richard Schofield.
Robert’s funeral will be conducted at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please light a candle in memory of Robert on website), on June 5th Tuesday at 11am, committal and interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Morristown, NJ. Relatives and friends will be received on June 4th Monday at the funeral home from 2-6pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Denville, NJ 07834.
