Arlene J Querido
Loved by all who knew her
Arlene J. Querido passed away surrounded by her family on Friday May 4, 2012 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ. She was 66 years old.
Arlene was born in South Amboy, NJ where her father, Oscar, owned the local hardware store. She was the second of Oscar and Betty Reiner’s two children. Arlene graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1962 and attended Boston University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She married her first husband, Bob, in 1966 and divorced in 1988. They had two children, Steven and Lisa.
Arlene met Roy Knapp, her beloved partner of the last 20 years, in 1992. They developed a relationship based on mutual respect and unconditional love, which impacted not only on each other, but on a family of loving, supportive friends, on their children and their spouses, and in their professional lives in education.
Arlene was loved by everyone who met her. She was kind, warm hearted, loving and generous. She also had a wry sense of humor. Her caring and engaging personality made people want to be around her. Arlene put these talents to use as a teacher at Head Start of Dover for the last 18 years, where she helped three and four years old sing, play and learn. “Miss Arlene” was adored by the children she taught and trusted and respected by their parents who she served as well.
Her favorite activities were reading, shopping, exercising, eating ice cream and playing with her grandchildren. Arlene enjoyed travelling and she had visited China, Russia, much of Europe and the Caribbean.
In addition to Roy, she is survived by her son Steven and his wife Dana and her three grandchildren, Jonathan, Grace and Elaina of Thorton PA; daughter Lisa and her boyfriend Chris Fontana of Seattle WA; Roy’s daughter Sarah Knapp and her Husband Allen Lamb of Washington, DC; her brother Monroe and his wife Barbara of Colts Neck, NJ; nieces and nephew Alyssa, Dana, and Keith and their spouses and children. Her children and grandchildren were a constant joy to her.
Services will be held graveside at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. At 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 followed by a brief gathering for refreshments and sharing at a facility nearby.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Morris County Head Start of Dover, 18 Thompson Avenue, Dover NJ, in Arlene’s memory.
