I played defense for Coach Stanton at Morris Catholic in the early 70's and I remember he created a defense for one of our games and called it "Tricky Dickies Mess" from what I can recall he was a funny man and a great coach. We were lucky to learn from him. Rest in peace coach.

Mrs. Stanton, Pam & Terri, my deepest sympathies are with you. I will say that only once did you throw rocks at the front door and run away. The big man always ran faster than you.

I remember one time years ago my son David was working on his car. He was under the back part of the car when suddenly the jack gave way and the car fell on Dave's chest. Dave called me to put the car in gear and move it forward. It was a stick shift and I panicked and didn't know what to do. Dick came running from across the street and was able to move the car off David. He probably saved his life. I'll always remember him for that.

Dick Stanton embodied all that is good in youth athletics. He had a passion for football and he loved kids. His belief in kids enabled them to achieve successes of which they never thought themselves capable. Many of these young men that he coached in the Rockaway Twp. and Morris Catholic High School programs attribute their success in their adult life to having been coached by Coach Stanton.
Having broken into coaching under Dick, he was a great influence on my life. As the head coach of the Rockaway Twp program, he allowed young coaches to make mistakes and learn from them. His loyalty as an assistant at Morris Catholic was unparalleled. Dick's contribution to the success of Morris Catholic's football program, working under 4 different head coaches spanning from the early 70s to the early 90s was significant. Coach Stanton's knowledge regarding developing kickers was as good as any coach that I have ever known in 35+ years of coaching. More than anything else, I will always view Dick as a friend who consistently put everyone else's needs before his. To Barbara, Pam, and Terry, I am so sorry for your loss. Dick Stanton was one of the most unique and important people with whom I have ever crossed paths. Thank you for sharing him.

Dad, Having witnessed your neverending will to live over the past 15+ years, through all your surgeries, Diabetes complications, Alzheimer's Disease, and even cancer, I know that the fact you're gone was completely out of your control. I take comfort in this and believe that although we weren't able to hold your hand when you left us, your hand was in His when your poor, tired body finally started its journey home. There's nothing left unsaid and nothing more to be done. So, Dad, our love may not have been patient or perfect, but it was ours and you will always remain in my heart. I love and miss you. Terri
