Peter William Nauta, 76, of Shallotte, NC formerly of Denville, NJ, died unexpectedly at home Friday, 2/24/2012. He was born in Morristown, NJ on August 2, 1935. He was preceded in death by his father, Peter Nauta. He is survived by his mother, Edith Ferguson Nauta; Loretta May Key Nauta, his wife of 53 years, a daughter, Margaret Huntzinger and grandson, Derek Page both of Belvidere, NJ, along with a granddaughter, Alexis Page and two great grandchildren of Blairstown, NJ. He is also survived by 5 brothers, Dale of NJ, Richard of PA and Robert, Leon & Ronald of SC, along with many cousins.
He retired from Howmedica, a division of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals where he had worked as a Senior Manager of the Engineering Services Group.
Peter was active in the Lake Arrowhead Club in Denville and was the president for 11 years. He was on the National Ski Patrol at Vernon Valley/Great Gorge for 15 years. He met with former patrollers in Aspen, Colorado to ski every year since 1982. Peter and his wife had just returned from a two week vacation in Aspen, CO and had a great time skiing.
Peter and Loretta purchased and Airstream trailer in '06 and joined the Watchung unit of the WBCCI. They were active and traveled extensively with their 3 standard poodles, which were a very important part of their lives. They moved to North Carolina 4 years ago and lived on Brierwood Golf Course where he played a lot of golf with his friends from the Ski Patrol. Peter had played golf on Thursday and had a great day. He passed away Friday morning.
A memorial service will be held at the Lake Arrowhead Clubhouse, 12 Lakewood Drive., Denville, NJ on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 11:00AM followed by a buffet.
