Leonora Tonking Harrison, 93, of Mount Tabor, NJ, passed away quietly in her home on Wed. Oct. 19, 2011. She was born June 23, 1918 in her grandmothers home on Asbury Place in Mt. Tabor, she has remained a resident her entire life. "Lee" was an employee of the US Postal Service from 1936 until her retirement in 1983. In 1967 she was appointed Postmaster of the Mt. Tabor Post Office by President Lyndon Johnson. She was proud of Mt. Tabor and fondly recalled the changes during her lifetime from a one room Schoolhouse that housed grades 1-8 at the Mt. Tabor School, to the growth of Parsippany from its inception to its development as the largest town in Morris County. She was privileged to have witnessed the takeoff of Charles Lindberg's historic flight across the Atlantic in 1927. She also enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. "Jack" Harrison who died in 2009. She was the loving Mother of John F. Harrison Jr. of Mt. Tabor and William B. Harrison and grandmother of Nicolas Hayes Harrison both of Fullerton, CA. She is also survived by her sisters Josephine Campbell of Mt. Tabor, Helen Philhower of Montville, and Bette (Dick) Perelli of Santa Barbara, CA, and her brothers Ben (Lou) Tonking Jr. of Holden Beach, NC, and Bill (Ruth) Tonking of Shallotte, NC. A funeral service will be held on Monday Oct. 24, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ www.normandean.com.
