Dear Pop,
It's funny how we never find the time to tella person whom we love how we really feel about them until it's too late. But Pop, I just wanted to let you know that when you slipped away the other night, I not only lost the best father that a son could have, I also lost my best friend. I wouldn't want to to trade the time that we had together for anything in the world.
I'm going to miss the beers we shared together while watching John Wayne and Errol Flynn at night and the road trips we'd take on my days off. I,m also going to miss you always telling me to "Be Careful" everytime I left home to go to work. But most of all I'm going to miss you.
I just hope that someday I'll be able to make you as proud of me as I have always been of you. So so long Pop and "take it easy". I know you're with Mom now watching over us and the grandkids.

Remembering you, Uncle Martin, and all the fun we had growing up. You were such a fun loving, easygoing person and I loved how much you loved your kids, and all of us. I remember how Mom and you used to refer to yourselves as the "outlaws." Good times...Rest in Peace Uncle Martin...

To the McParland family,
I was very saddened to hear of your loss. Marty was a kind, genuine person with a wonderful sense of humor. Some of his responces on the radio used to make us all laugh...no matter what time of day or night it was. He was truly one of the good guys and will be missed by many. Keep the warm, loving memories of him in your hearts and he will live on forever in all of you.

I REMEMBER HIM STOPPING BY OUR HOUSE SO THAT MY DAD COULD HELP HIM FIX HIS CAR. I REMEMBER A MAN WHO REALLY LOVED HIS CHILDREN. I REMEMBER HIS EXCITEMENT WHEN MOVING TO SUSSEX. I REMEMBER HIS SENSE OF HUMOR. I KNOW HE IS AT PEACE NOW. HE AND HIS WIFE ARE HAVING TEA WITH MY DAD AND TALKING ABOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS.

One of my favorite family stories is of the time when I was a toddler and somehow managed to wedge my fat little finger into a toy rattle. Uncle Martin scooped me up and ran the 4 blocks to the local firehouse, so they could get it off. He was a great guy to have around in an emergency. Rest in peace, my godfather, Uncle Martin.

I had the honor of sitting by Martin at New Jersey's first 9-1-1 Telecommunicator class at the Morris County Police Academy back in 1991. What a great guy telling some really good stories about his days in Newark during break times of that week. Over the years when he worked at Rockaway Township and I at Butler, it was great to work with him even if it was over the radio and phones.

I have such fond memories of the fish dinners we used to have every Friday in the house on 7th St in Newark. I would make the potatoes and vegetables and Martin would bring fresh fish home from Peter's fish market in Orange. He wouuld cook the fish while Mary played with my daughter Catherine then when Malachy came home from work we would all have dinner together before martin put Catherine to bed. What sweet memories.
