Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
Joseph W. Hannan, 88, retired Lieutenant for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, of Rockaway, NJ, formerly of Waldwick, NJ passed away on Thursday June 30, 2001 at home, surrounded by his family.
Joseph was predeceased by his three children, his daughter Linda, and two sons, Joseph and James.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Adelaide (nee Mahoney), his devoted children. Eileen of Rockaway, NJ, Thomas and his wife Emily and his cherished granddaughter Taylor all of Denville,NJ, his brother John of Carey, NC and his sister Mae of Wayne, NJ.
Joseph’s funeral will be conducted from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please read complete obituary and light a candle in memory of Joseph on web site), on Tuesday July 5th at 9am for a 10am Mass of Christian Burial services at St. Catherine of Siena Church Mountain Lakes, NJ committal and interment service at Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah, NJ. Relatives and friends will be received on Sunday July 3rd at the funeral home from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers donation to the Visiting Nurses Association of Northern New Jersey or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.

Joseph W. Hannan, 88, retired Lieutenant for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, of Rockaway, NJ, formerly of Waldwick, NJ passed away on Thursday June 30, 2001 at home, surrounded by his family.
Born in Paterson, NJ Joseph lived in Waldwick, NJ for most of his life before moving to Rockaway, NJ in 2004.
He was police officer with the Port Authority of NY and NJ for over 30 years before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant. During his career with the Port Authority, Joseph became a recognized expert in all phases of emergency and fire equipment. He was directly responsible for testing and evaluating airport equipment. He also developed the appropriate training programs for all Port Authority Police Emergency crews. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 1975, for his accomplishments in the Field of Emergency Services.
Joseph served honorably in the US Army during WW II.
