Ms. Anneliese “Anne” Marie Andreas, 89, of Denville, NJ passed away on April 24th at Franciscan Oaks Health Center after a brief illness. She was born in Greiz, Germany on June 5th, 1921 to Jenny (Muhlman) and Goswin Ernst Andreas. The family emigrated from Germany to the US arriving in Ellis Island during March 1925 and settling in Newark, NJ.
Anne graduated from Clifton High School, then attended Columbia and Lee Secretarial School in New York. She began her career with the YMCA and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. In 1946 she began what would become a long and very successful career at Hoffman LaRoche in Nutley, NJ, culminating in the position of secretary to the vice president. Anne retired in 1986.
While at Hoffman LaRoche, Anne lived in Oak Ridge NJ, a German community, where she was a loving companion to her mother. Both enjoyed the friendships and German culture that they found in Oak Ridge.
In November 1994, Anne was one of the first residents to relocate to the newly constructed Franciscan Oaks, a continuing care retirement community in Denville NJ.
Anne is survived by her sister in law, Kathryn Andreas Getchell of Scarborough, Maine; a nephew, William Andreas and wife Susan of Georgetown, MA; 2 nieces, Barbara Andreas Brennan and husband Jack, of Millis, MA, Joanne Andreas Cheatham of Mount Airy, NC; 2 grand nephews, Niklaas Andreas of Topsfield, MA and Jon Andreas of Cambridge, MA. In addition to her parents, Anne was pre-deceased by her brother, Heinz Andreas.
A reception and celebration of Anne’s life will be held 2 pm Saturday May 7th at Franciscan Oaks, 19 Pocono Rd., Denville NJ, in the Fairlawn room. Donations in Anne’s memory may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice. The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the staff and residents at Franciscan Oaks for their caring commitment to Anne during her illness and for the friendships they provided throughout her residency at the Oaks.
