Obituary of Joseph E. Monahan

Joseph Monahan, age 86, of Denville, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Compassionate Care Hospice, Dover. Born August 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Louise Kunzer Monahan. Joseph served his country in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was an avid fisherman and railroad buff. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, and a 3rd Degree Knight of the Our Lady of the Lakes Council 3359 Knights of Columbus, also serving as a past Treasurer. Joseph was active with the Denville Seniors, Navy League of the US, American Merchant Marine Veterans, and Morris County Railroad Club.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (MacMillan) Monahan; and sister, Mary Scuto. He is survived by his children, Kristy (Vin) Yacenda of Denville, and Jeff (Dawn) Monahan of Denville; grandchildren, Jimmy Dingman, Jeff (Robyn Mckeen) Dingman, Casey (Steve) Sutton, Mike Redmond, Travis (Stacey) Monahan, and Jack Monahan; great-grandchildren Ayla Dingman and Keegan Monahan; and sister, Marcella Butchko.
Funeral Services will begin Friday, October 29, 2010 at 9:00 am at Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, Denville. Burial will follow in Denville Cemetery. Friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
