George J. Amato, age 77, of Rockaway Twp., formerly of Garfield and Montville, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. George served his country in the Army during the Korean War as well as in the Army National Guard for 25 years. He was active in politics and served as a Councilman and on the Planning Board in Garfield, NJ. George also served on the Civic Association as a member of the Board of Directors and belonged to the Men's Club at Fox Hills, Rockaway. He was inducted into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen Amato, Rockaway Twp; children, Jack (Nancy) Amato, Lisa (Hans) Agostini, Randy (Sandy) Kaufman, and Craig Weiss; grandchildren, Gabe, Ben, Renee, Samantha, Alexis, Jake, Bryce, Meg, Danny, and Lainie, and sisters, Marilyn and Tena.
Relatives and Friends may visit on Tuesday, August 24, from 4-7:30 PM at Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 PM Tuesday. Entombment will follow on Wednesday at 10:45 AM at Garden of Memories, Paramus. Please meet at Mausoleum Chapel.
