I worked with Jack on the EPA clean-up at the Hiteman site in West Winfield, NY. He was such a nice person, a real gentleman. He really cared for and had a genuine interest in the people he was working with. His efforts really helped our project along and he went way above and beyond what he was required to do. My thought and prayers are with his family and friends.

Linda,
I was saddened to hear of Jacks death. We first met at the Wharton drum corps, we then both joined the Rythmairs, and also played in various bands together at Morris Hills. From when we were 12 years old, we sat together for many hours over a 6 - 7 year period playing our horns. Jack was a good friend a talented musician and a wonderful person. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Dear Linda and family,
I was so sadden to hear of Jackie's passing. Even though we were not close [due to an age gap] It was always a pleasure to see him at family events. He was a great man with a wonderful personality and sense of humor. I know he adored his family. My husband and I were away on a vacation and were not able to attend the services. I hope you all can carry his love in your hearts always. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
with love,
cousin Evie

Jack and I rode the train to work together for a number of years and worked on the same floor at EPA. I enjoyed our time together sharing a lot of laughs and our lives, as Jack proudly talked about his sons and grandchildren (hockey!!) and the annual family vacations to Canada, just to name a couple of the countless topics we covered. Jack was also a valuable sounding board for discussing work-related topics. To put it simply: we all lost a good man too soon and I'll miss him!

Jack O'dell was a good-hearted, hard-working man who loved his family above all. He would visit my cubicle at EPA to tell me his latest joke. I always teased him on the superioty of women and you can imagine some of our exchanges! He was good sport, a wonderful colleague and he made me laugh. I will miss Jack but his spirit will remain here at EPA encouraging us in our important work. My condolences to Linda, his sons and grandchildren. God Bless You Jack.

My office was near Jack’s for many years. Whenever I would run into him into the hallway or pass by his office he would say hi Bob and ask me about my weekend or my kids, and then after I gave my answer he would say, “I was just going to say…”. And then he would tell you (for the rest of the morning or afternoon, if you let him) about his fishing trips with his sons, junior hockey, baseball, the family get togethers, Superfund contractors, independent cost estimates (Egads!). He loved it all (except the contractors and the independent cost estimates). Jack was a true gentleman and a kind soul. We lost a very, very good and exceptional man. To his family, may be peace be with you and may your memories of Jack continue to bring you joy forever.

Jack and I were the office earlybirds turning on the lights and frequently exchanging humorous life experiences. In inclement weather, it never ceased to amaze us how the two of us could get in to the office from NJ in a timely manner and our NYC co workers could not.

Jack would always be a joy to talk with. His stories were always interesting, typically long, and infectiously involving. Even after many years of these stories, he was always able to surprize me with learning something new he had done. He seems to have lived many lives. I will miss this dear man very much and know I will have no choice but think of him very often. God Bless his family. He always spoke of them with pride and love; at great length and with great verve.
