Although it's been years since I've been in touch with most of my extended family in N.J., I wanted to let you all know that you are in our thoughts during this difficult time. I hold dear the memories of visiting Green Pond as a youngster and hanging out with Uncle Pete and family at his house and tavern. Although we can't be there to say goodbye, we send our love to Romy and the O'Neills.

I have such warm memories of Mr. O'Neill, Joni's dad, from meeting him for the first time on a visit to New Jersey some time during college and then all the other visit over the years. His hospitality and inquistive nature made me feel welcome right away. Upon leaving I would look forward to returning again soon.

I was saddened to learn of Pete's passing.
The GP INN was like the town square to alot of us. Whether it was late night pill pool or a super bowl party that was always sold out, we felt welcome.
Pete and Margo raised a great family and they are a living legacy to both of them.
Rest easy friend. Sm,CA

I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of Pete and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Growing up in Green Pond I spent a lot time at Pete O’Neill’s Green Pond Inn, a.k.a. Pete’s, with my family. Pete always made us feel right at home. I later worked in the kitchen under Pete’s direction for many years getting to know his wife Margot and children well. Pete always treated us, his employees, with great respect. He always took time to teach us valuable lessons about being good employees and instilling good work ethics in us. He always reinforced the values that our parents had taught us in real life applications while employed by him. He was a good friend and mentor.

A great man. Gone but not forgotten. I'm one of the many that came through Pete O'Neill's Green Pond Inn. I have many fond memories of working and hanging out there and just being a part of your family during those times. I wish I could have played one more tennis game with Pete. God Bless each and every one of you. I wish I could be there. But please know that I keep each of you in my thoughts and prayers.
"We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name,
In life we loved you dearly, and in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
With my deepest sympathy-
Douglas Skutka

Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of Pete's family and especially his beloved children and wife Romy for their loss of a very nice gentleman whom we have known for many years in Green Pond. As a close neighbor we were very happy to see Pete and Romy so happy fixing up the house and always planning a trip away together...Always together every day of their lives since they met. They made each other very happy and we were witness to that. Holding hands as they walked around the village or bike riding together and I will always remember Pete yelling out to me "We're going to AC to see "Tom Jones"...making me so jealous...He had a chuckle and a smile back to me remembering seeing me at one of Tom Jones concerts and how much I enjoyed him...A very gentle and religious man who will be remembered always.

My sincere condolences to the entire O'Neill family on the loss of your father, brother, uncle or grandfather... He was a special person and I know he will be missed. For me, fond memories of Pete revolve around the events he organized at "The Tavern." "Super Bowl," "Nickel Night," "The Owl Open," West Point Football Games or just hanging around talking sports or any number of subjects. Great times that will always hold a special place in my heart. Like those that have passed before him, he will live on in my memory. God Bless...

Pat and all O'Neill's, No need to pray for your Dad. He is already holding court around the table of life in Heaven. And it just got to be a more interesting place because he is there. Probably pouring a beer for all. May he rest in Peace. The Green Pond Inn was a great spot to gather after golf.
