Norma Arduin Nunez
1924-2009
Norma Arduin Nunez passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 17, 2009, after a long illness. She is now in the arms of her Lord and surrounded by family and friends who have gone before.
Mrs. Nunez was born in Cienfuegos, Cuba and was a teacher for many years before immigrating to the United States with her husband and children in 1960. She spent a majority of her life in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she raised her three children as a widow after the unexpected death in 1966 of her beloved husband Justo, whom she married in 1942.
Through the years, Mrs. Nunez was very active in her church activities and served as a volunteer for Special Olympics. She also provided translation and welcoming services at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin in connection with the resettlement of Cuban immigrants in the early 1980s. She was known for her abiding faith, her constant smile and her infectious enthusiasm, and it can truly be said that she was a friend to all who met her. Mrs. Nunez worked at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus for 27 years. She retired in 1989 and spent the last ten years of her retirement in Denville, New Jersey, where she lived close to her daughter Patricia.
Mrs. Nunez was predeceased by her husband Justo Aurelio Nunez, who passed away on January 5, 1966.
Mrs. Nunez is survived by her three children and their spouses: Patricia and Paul Agliata of Denville, New Jersey, Joe Nunez and Catherine Bendel of West St. Paul, Minnesota, and Justo and Christine Nunez of Greensboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren who were the loves of her life: Alyson, Justin, Christopher, Drew, Jordan, Molly and Richie.
A Visitation and Memorial Mass will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota at Incarnation Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Special Olympics or to St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights, Minnesota ( www.cadets.com).
