Dearest Uncle Rex, Let me say that I both love and miss you terribly. I feel that a part of my very heart has gone with you. I shall cherish always all of my memories of you and Aunt Marge. Closest to my heart shall rest that of our first true visit together where it was for a while, as you will recall, just you and I looking at my toy soldier/history books. You shared with and passed on to me so much of your vast, inestimable knowledge and personal expieriences and ignited within me what will be a life long love, interetin, and study of my heritage, homeland, people, and their history. Last night I finally found out in my searching Grandpa Peter's regiment! You can imagine and I am sure shared my joy as we both pondered, talked, and searched for the answer together. I have no doubt this is a result of your petitions before the Good Lord that He allow me this knowledge, nad He has. I thank Him and you. Of all that you embodied you most embodied the love of Jesus Christ; you dwelt therin and showered it forth upon all of us. I certainly find no small amount of solace in knowing that you are now with Him and in His eternal glorious presence, as well as those many family members whose company I am sure you sorely missed. Give them all a hug and kiss for me. May your fortitude in all adversity be ever an example for us and our posterity. While we are yet on earth you will in memory ever remain with us as I know we will likewise with you in Heaven. And though in our time it may be a long while, though short copared with eternity, before you and I, our family, and a vast multitude are gathered together once more at our Heavenly Father's table, I joyfully anticipate that day and the meetings and reunions it will bring, particularly our own. I love you and until then Uncle Rex, The Lord bless thee and keep thee; the Lord make His face shine down upon thee and be gracious unto thee; the Lord lift His countenance upon thee and give thee peace. Amen. Love Always, Your "Toomie"

Dearest Uncle Rex, I will miss your smiling blue eyes and that gorgeous brogue but most of all your gracious and loving personality and how you and Aunt Marge welcomed Ian and I and the children into your lives and your home. I have will have fond memories of seeing you at Aunt Pat's and in Florida.
I am so touched by how you spent so much of your time sharing our family history and Scotland's history with Thomas. Oh, how this child will miss you. We take comfort in knowing that have gone into the welcoming arms of Our Lord. May you rest in peace. Love, Charlotte, Ian, Tom, Dawn and Peter.

Thinking of all the family in America and here in Scotland who will be thinking of you today. My lasting memory is when you came to stay with us when we lived in London. I was a lot younger then Uncle Pat, and when I crept into your room to say another goodnight to you, I went running to my mum to tell her you had fallen on the floor! I couldn’t understand why everyone was laughing, even when I was told that you were actually kneeling by your bed and you were praying!! Have happy times now with my nan & granddad and send them my love; love you always, Stacey x

With loving thoughts for the ones left behind, you will be sorely missed Uncle Pat. Lasting memory for us will be your passionate rendition of "These Are My Mountains" at the get-together at our pub, The Balgay Bar, for which you deservedly were given a standing ovation!! You touched many hearts during your time here Uncle Pat, more so with your family here, as you “took” the place of our dad for Jimmy, Maureen and myself, and gave us some extra time to hang on to his memory. We are so glad that we had that last time with you when you last came home, giving us lasting memories to cherish, and for that, we thank you. Thinking of all the family over there, till we all meet again, bye for now Uncle Pat, rest in peace.

Uncle Pat, we met just before the wedding in April 2006 at Fernie Castle in Scotland and quickly you became hero from stranger - captivating me with your humour, stories and your reminiscing of your days in the Hilltown and Overgate.
In the three years since then, Sharon, Jimmy, Sandra and I have crammed in the happy memories of you that help keep us going now.....Christmas 2006, St Pete's Beach in summer 2007, the trip of my lifetime with Jordy and Stewart last summer, the Sunday phone calls, Zach's wedding, plus much much more.
I know how proud you were of little Stewart ("Stoort") taking care of Jordan and am so grateful for the holiday you gave them. I loved the way you always told me to take care of your "wee lassie" every time we were wrenched away from America to come home...am still trying!
I loved and will sorely miss your reliance on me to ensure your computer problems were fixed from 4000 miles away, to ensure that you got your daily fix of "The Tele" and "The Courier", news from Scotland and eMails from us all.
I could go on forever about how proud I was having you in my family and you giving me the family name! You loved the stuff about the year of Rabbie Burns 250th anniversary celebrations I told you about.....it is so bittersweet that during the year of Homecoming Scotland, one of its greatest ever soldiers has fallen and come home.
Rest In Peace....love you forever.
