Catherine Burns McDonough, 91, of Denville, NJ, died on Monday, March 2, 2009, at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville.
Born in Newark, NJ, Mrs. McDonough came to Denville in 1953. A licensed funeral director, she and her sisters owned and operated the Burns Funeral Home in the Vailsburg section of Newark, a business established by their parents, the late Joseph A. and Alice Conway Burns, in 1915 and operated on the same block for 75 years. She was a graduate of Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth, the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station and the McAllister School of Funeral Service in New York City. She attended St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Mountain Lakes.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard T. McDonough; the devoted mother of Richard T. McDonough of Lambertville and Andrew J. McDonough of New York City and Chatham, NJ and the late Joseph R. McDonough; the doting grandmother of Catherine M., James A. and Grace A. McDonough of Chatham, NJ; the loving sister of Regina M. McBride and her husband William H. of Spring Lake and the late Alice M. Fields and the late Mary C. Kerns; the dear mother-in-law of Susan F. McDonough of Chatham and the aunt of several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Friday, March 6, 2009, at 9 am from the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834 then to St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Pocono Road at the Boulevard, Mountain Lakes, NJ 07046 where at 10 am the funeral mass will be offered. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
Calling hours at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
