Obituary of John E. McCarthy

John E. (Jack) McCarthy, Jr., 50, formerly of Denville, NJ died on Friday, February 6, 2009, at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville, NJ, surrounded by his family.
Born in New Rochelle, NY, he grew up in Denville, graduated from Morris Knolls High School, and played lead trumpet in the Morris Knolls marching, concert and jazz bands. He was a music major at Ithaca University.
Jack was a Systems Support Engineer at Sun Microsystems in Somerset, NJ, for the past 9 years. He was previously employed in computer systems work at AT&T.
Jack had a passion for life, and had a life-long interest in cars and racing, which led to his active participation as a High Performance Driving Instructor in the Porsche Club of America's Northern New Jersey Region for the past 20 years. He enthusiastically provided high-performance driving tips and techniques to drivers of all skill levels, and participated in East Coast and Canadian weekend races throughout his membership in the organization.
Jack touched many lives with his sense of fun, his zest for life, his quick wit, bright mind, creativity, and his selfless sense of humility and compassion for others. He was an inspiration, with his high standards, his insight and perception in interacting with people, his generosity, and his gentle touch.
Jack is survived by his mother, Denise Hennessy McCarthy and his father, John E. McCarthy, his brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Linda McCarthy, sister Denise McCarthy, his nephew Sean McCarthy, and his dear friend Donna DeGaetano. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville NJ, www.normandean.com, on Monday, February 9, from 2-4pm and from 7-9pm. A mass in celebration of Jack's life will be held at St. Virgil's Church on 250 Speedwell Ave., Morris Plains, on Tuesday February 10, at 10am. His burial will take place at Holy Rood Cemetery, 61 Whippany Rd., Morristown, following the church services. Please light a candle on the web site in his memory.
