The kids shows in the late afternoon, with Leslie as an older "kid" to help direct! Leslie is so special, energetic, positive, and full of life and love. God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be,
So he put his arms around you
And whispered, "Come to me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
And saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Leslie was never not smiiling or laughing. Her dimples are a true reflection of that. I remember practicing for our "Madonna Madness" and "90's Madness" routines in her living room with her enourmously fat cat looking on. I remember the last time I spent time with Leslie and Dustin for St. Patrick's Day in 2007. Although I hadn't seen her in a while, it was as though no time had gone by at all. I remember her teaching me how to say, "Dude, where my car" in Spanish. We laughed so much that weekend. I'm so happy I have that memory. I agree with the many others who have said their lives are better having had the priviledge to know such an amazing human being. She will always have a place in my heart.

I am a student from the Hoboken Charter School, and I was very fond of Leslie. She was always so nice, and she was going to be my younger brother's kindergarten teacher. When she was diagnosed with Leukemia, everyone in my school and my family were really sad. When she got her chemo treatment and returned to our school, everyone was thrilled to see her and everyone was glad she was having a Good and quick recovery. As the announced her death in our school, my friends and I were heart broken. One thing she died with that not many others did, was many people who cared about her. Many people loved her during her life, abd still love her now. she is in my thughts and prayers.

Dear Lesley,
We are all deeply shocked and saddened by your passing and it is hard to believe that someone so special and amazing has left us.
I remember meeting you the first week of college in Gates Hall. You lived directly above Dave and I. We were next to Jimmy and Stu, who you were good friends with that year. I saw you almost every day, be it in the dorm, at class, lounging in Farinon or out at night to blow off some steam. Always were you friendly, smiling and a pleasure to be around.
After college we would often bump into each other in Hoboken. You were so quick to stop and chat and laugh for a little while – it was always nice to catch up.
I will forever remember you as the bright, sunny girl from college and the brave and unflappable woman you became. You will be sorely missed.
My prayers are with you, your family and your friends.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey Carroll

When I last saw Leslie, she was as cheerful and full of life as at any time I had ever known her, and yet she was facing such a terrible struggle. She was so brave and so strong. And I can see from the many tributes to her that she never lost those traits despite all that she faced. I am humbled to have known her and I pray that we all could have such strength if we were similarly challenged. Leslie was blessed with a special grace that few possess, and a spirit that comes from the love and support of a wonderful, caring family. I pray for my cousin Dick and for Susan, for Emily and Christine, and for Dustin, who must have been such a comfort for her. May the many family and friends who love you keep you close and comfort you in this sad time. I love you all, and am so fortunate to call you family.

Leslie - I can't remember a summer on 29th Street without you. From playing kickball in the street after dinner when we were little, to rollerblading all over BL, to hanging out on your porch late into the night just a couple summers ago - so many great memories! You will be missed by us all. To your family - words can't express how sorry I am. My thoughts are with ALL of you!

Miss Leslie...I'll always remember you as Monkey Brains. You're such an incredible person, and you're beautiful inside and out. I can honestly say you are one of the strongest people I have ever met. Thank you for all of the memories down the shore, thank you for bringing me into the ocean every year! Thank you for helping me get through my panic attack at grandma's house that one year! Thank you for shopping with us in NYC! Thank you for being such an amazing cousin. You taught me so much, and I can't thank you enough. Leslie, I love you so much, and even though you're not here phsyically, you're still with all of us spiritually. Have fun with Grandma Ocean, and know that I will love you forever.

Leslie, I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss you. I still remember you as my "Monkey Brain," my big cousin who would take me down in the ocean even when the water was full of jellyfish and freezing. Your big smile and even bigger personality made you so beautiful and strong, and I will never forget that.
I love you so much, I just wish I could have seen you one last time.
Oh, by the way, tell Grandma hello! =]

We will always remember Leslie as that vivacious teenager- one of the Fab Five-strutting her stuff at the West HS Senior Show. Having parented teenagers, we always knew how important it was that they find the right kind of friends. We couldn't have asked that Katie have a more sincere, honest, and generous friend than Leslie.
Our thoughts are with all of you. May your memories of this special young woman bring you comfort in the days ahead.

Leslie was one of my best friends from highschool, and luckily she stayed in my life beyond those 4 years. There are so many small, seemingly meaningless memories we have shared, but now each one of those seems to matter more than I ever thought possible. Writing notes to each other between each class, even though we'd see each other at lunch and repeat everything written in those notes. Giving our crushes crazy nicknames so that if ANYONE got a hold of those notes, our secrets wouldn't be exposed. Her rolling on the floor as "Ace Ventura" during her speech for Treasurer elections. I was so envious of her self confidence and humor in front of such a large audience. I wished for just a piece of her energetic spirit and easy way with people.
When Leslie got cancer, I was sad, but never really thought that her not defeating it was an option. I remember thinking "well, she'll just get treatments and get better." Period. No question. In these last few weeks when things got bad, a part of me still saw her sitting up in her apartment, talking about how bad things had been, and "thank god that's over." Her passing away just didn't seem possible. It still doesn't. I don't know why this happened. None of this makes sense to me. The world became a darker place yesterday morning when Leslie Smith's spirit left her body. She will never be forgotten, and I know she will always be looking down on us, sending down her positive light.
