Elsie J. Collins, 89, of Denville died Monday at home.
Cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Collins' love for her family was reflected in her extraordinary and varied homemaking talents, including cooking, knitting and sewing. Neighbors as well were frequent recipients of her contributions during times of both celebration and need.
Never idle, her interests extended to the greater community. She worked for Lord and Taylor in NYC before retiring in 1969, was an enthusiastic volunteer for Saint Clare's Hospital in Denville, and an active member of the Denville Senior Citizens Center.
The third youngest of eight children of German immigrants Richard and Elizabeth Goeller, Mrs. Collins was born in Irvington and raised in Union. She later lived with her husband on Long Island, and in 1952 they bought a vacation home in Denville, where they moved permanently in 1976.
Surviving are her husband Gilbert R.; son Gilbert J; daughter Joanne; grandchildren Bryan, Kristen and Gregg; and great-grandchildren Brandon and Justin.
