Frieda J. Hamp
Devoted to her family
TOMS RIVER -- Frieda J. Hamp (nee Buchholz) passed away on June 29, 2005 at her daughters home in Snellville, GA. She was 84 years old.
Born in 1921 of German parents in Felezianof, Poland, she was married to Reinhold Hamp in 1939 and moved to Germany in 1946. They and their children came to the United States as refugees in 1952, settling first in lower Manhattan, then in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and eventually Ridgewood, Queens, and Maspeth, Queens. They moved to Toms River in 1982.
She worked in several companies, including Trunz Meat Co. in Brooklyn, NY, where she was a short order cook and waitress for 18 years before retiring in 1974. She was a charter member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Toms River, NJ and, throughout her life, she sang in church choirs and vocal groups as a way of expressing her strong Christian faith. For several years now she has been looking forward to singing in the heavenly choir! Through the years, she also enjoyed cooking and baking as well as gardening and serving as the family matriarch. Most of all she will be remembered for being a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Reinhold Hamp, in 1986; by a sister, Irma Stierle, of Cleveland, OH, and a brother, The Rev. Reinhold Buchholz, of Germany, both in 2003.
Frieda is survived by two daughters, Luci Hamp Rosa, and her husband, Ralph, of Snellville, GA, and Edith Hamp Imhoff, and her husband, George, of Denville, NJ. Also surviving are two granddaughters:
Melissa Imhoff Danielson and her husband, Brian, of Grove City, PA, and
Adrienne Imhoff Vacanti and her husband, Michael, of Rockaway, NJ. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, Asher Danielson and Joshua Danielson; and by a brother, Willy Buchholz and his wife, Melli, of Derry, NH.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at 9:30 a.m. at the Denville Community United Methodist Church, 190 Diamond Spring Rd., Denville, NJ.
