Obituary of William ““Harry”” Lang

William Harry Lang, 87, died at Saint Clares Hospital in Denville, NJ on Thursday June 3, 2005. Mr. Lang was born in Paterson, NJ on September 9, 1917, lived in Prospect Park and Butler before moving to Denville 8 years ago. He was employed for 42 years with the Curtiss Wright Corp. Wood Ridge, NJ retiring as Plant Engineering Financial Administrator on May 31, 1980. Mr. Lang served with the 511th US Army Engineers from December 19, 1942 to November 11, 1945. Awarded the Bronze Star Medal for action in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Lang earned five battle stars. He was the Past Commander of American Legion Post 240 in Prospect Park, NJ. He was awarded the Liberation of France Medal and awarded the US Army Corps of Engineers The Bronze Order of the deFleury Medal for providing significant contributions to Army Engineering. He received the WW II Commemorative Medal by Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders for distinguished military service. Mr. Lang served as Secretary/Treasurer to the Board of the Butler Senior Housing Development Fund Company, Inc. fro 1988 to 1999. He was elected to Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 2000 thru 2004. He was a member of the Butler Senior X.Y.Z. Club and served as its President for five years. Former member of the Dial-A-Ride Organization serving for 8 years. He served three years o the Butler Senior Advisory Committee. He was a volunteer at Saint Clares Hospital in Denville since 1983. Mr. Lang also served on various committees at the Franciscan Oaks as well as Vice President of the Residents Council for two years. He was elected President for the years 2001 thru 2004. Mr. Lang was honored as a Living Treasure of Morris County in the year 2002. Mr. Lang was married in 1945 to the former Sylvia M. Heyes of Buxton, Derbyshire, England. Mr. Lang has a daughter Karen J. Bay of Hawthorne, NJ and a son William H. Lang of Haledon, NJ, and granddaughter Janelle Bay.
